Server Chassis – 1U, 2U, 3U & 4U Rackmount Cases for Custom Builds

Server Warehouse stocks a focused range of 19-inch rackmount server chassis across all standard form factors — 1U, 2U, 3U and 4U — sold from our facility in Midstream, Gauteng. All chassis are empty cases without a power supply unless specifically stated; PSU options are listed separately in our Rackmount Power Supplies section. Rail kits for rack installation are also sold separately under Rail Kits.

Chassis depths in our range run from 250mm (Mini-ITX 1U) through to 550mm (ATX 2U). Most standard South African server racks are 600mm or 800mm deep, so all chassis in this range will fit with clearance to spare. The depth figure refers to the chassis body only — allow an additional 50–80mm for cable management at the rear.

Choosing the right form factor: The U rating refers to rack height, not capacity. A 1U chassis occupies 44.45mm of rack space and typically supports one or two 3.5-inch drives. A 2U doubles that height and generally allows three to six drives depending on the model. 3U and 4U chassis are used where you need multiple drive bays, full-length expansion cards, or are fitting a standard ATX or EATX motherboard with room for adequate airflow.

Motherboard compatibility: Mini-ITX boards (170×170mm) fit only designated Mini-ITX chassis. Micro-ATX boards (244×244mm) fit mATX and ATX chassis. Full ATX boards (305×244mm) require an ATX-rated chassis. EATX boards (305×330mm or larger) require an EATX-rated chassis — not all 4U models support EATX, so check the spec before ordering.
